Land-based casino game developer Novomatic makes a huge splash with Wild Rescue, it’s a 30 payline, 5 reel video slots that offers a top non-progressive jackpot of 1,500 coins. It’s a skiing-themed slots that comes with a ‘Tumble’ feature with cascading reels and an ‘Avalanche’ feature where a whopping 15 wilds takes winning combinations to the next level.
In addition there’s an ‘Extreme Skier Free Spins’ mode, you’ll see 6 skiers spread out across your screen that act as wilds. The interesting bit about the free spins feature is that it continues until the skiers have dropped off the reels which is equivalent to 50 free spins.
My take on the game is that it’s a high variance slots that high rollers will enjoy tremendously. Aesthetically wise the slots is okay but not near as good as some of the NetEnt games’ graphics. That said, Novomatic gets down to business right away. It does away with all the theatrics and focuses exclusively on what players want-a slots that pays!
Symbols on the reels are cards from Jack to Ace, trees laden with snow, skiers, snowboarders and the Wild Rescue logo. The latter symbol pays a cool 4,500 coins when 5 of them pitch at the highest stake on an active line. The house edge of the game is 5.5% or a return to player percentage (RTP) of 95.5%. You’ll experience a couple of dry spins that can be as high as 7 times, so make sure you’ve selected the proper coin range before you go off spinning those reels.
You can spun the reels from 30 pence up to £60 per spin. If you click on the ‘Menu’, you’ll see the audio, Gamble, Lines, Bet Lines and Deposit tabs. Wild Rescue can be played for free or for real cash on mobile phones and desktops. If you experienced a win the Gamble feature allows you to double your wins by choosing a ‘Red’ of ‘Black’ card-pick the right one and wins are doubled, pick the wrong one you lose and you’ll return to the base game.
The Tumble feature is triggered when you hit a winning combination, the symbols responsible for the win are removed from the reels and new ones will cascade into their place are replaced by new ones. There’s a ranger symbol that transforms into a golden wild, as long as you rope in those winning combinations you can win a huge amount of cash on every spin.
Then there’s the Avalanche feature, it’s triggered by 3 consecutive wins, 2 up to 15 wilds are scattered randomly across the reels which leads to a nice payline win. For the duration of the Avalanche feature the ranger stays a wild.
The nice bit about Wild Rescue is its free spins feature, it is triggered when 3 helicopter scatter symbols pop up on reels 1, 3 and 5. Six extreme skiers spread out across the reels act as wilds. The skiers start right at the top and drop one position with each spin. The skier is rescued by the helicopter if it reached the lowest position and will then be returned to the starting position. The free spins feature ends once all the skiers have disappeared from the reels or when you’ve played 50 free spins.
This is not the type of slots where players can muck about, pardon my French. It’s a high variance game to the core but it has the potential for some crazy big wins especially when the Avalanche feature kicks in with its 15 wilds and if the Free Spins feature is triggered.
Triggering the free spins is no cakewalk, I mean it requires a sturdy bankroll and patience. If you do manage to trigger it some big wins will be coming your way. I won’t play it, make no mistake it’s a cracking game but one that takes kindly to high-staked players and not to low rollers like myself.
