Where to play?
Ancient Fortunes: Zeus from Microgaming is a medium variance video slot with 10 paylines, 5 reels, 3 rows and a game mechanic that employs a Rolling Reels feature. Symbols are removed from the reel set and replaced by new ones. It offers a non-progressive jackpot of 1,000x your stake. The theme of the 3D slots teleports you to mount Olympus, realm of the gods in Greek mythology.
There’s a lot here for the dedicated slots fan: Rolling Reels (pays both ways) where successive wins increase multiplier wins from 2x, 3x to 7x as well as a Free Spins bonus offering a whopping 70 free falls. The Rolling Reels feature kicks in during the free falls with multiplier wins as high as 21x! With all the promising features it’s worth checking the slots out.
We’re not out to slate Microgaming; it’s just that we’re of the opinion that the vendor’s previous slot releases, despite their creative assembly has been ‘less than stellar’. So do forgive us if we’re not caught up in all the hype. Further, it screams Gonzo’s Quest, one of Net Entertainment’s flagship titles.
Playable from £0.10 to £70 per spin at all our accredited mobile casinos, each new depositor automatically qualifies for a deposit bonus.
Symbols on the reels are Zeus (premier god in the Greek pantheon of gods), Hermes (god of trade, heraldry, sports, travelers and athletes), Ares (god of war), Poseidon (god of the Sea, horses and earthquakes), Dionysus (god of wine), lightning bolt scatter, snakes, panthers, vultures and krakens. Zeus serves as the wild while Ares is the premium symbol and 5 of them across the reels at the maximum wager pays 62.5x your stake.
With drastically improved graphics, game play is punchy with Microgaming’s unique brand of charm and style. The RTP of Ancient Fortunes: Zeus is 96.02% (House Edge 3.98%).
Zeus is the wild that completes winning combinations when it substitutes symbols adjacent to it, bar the scatter.
The free spins bonus round in Ancient Fortunes: Zeus is activated by 3, 4 or 5 lightning bolt scatters triggering 10, 15 to 20 free spins. The free spins awarded are proportionate to the scatters and the more scatters on the reels in the main game, the more free falls you’ll get. It is a re-triggerable feature, so let’s say another 5 scatters appear then an extra 50 free spins are allocated which makes it 70 in total!
Are there any extras during the Free Falls? Yes there is and it applies to the Rolling Reels feature with multiplier wins on each free spin that ranges from 3x, 7x, 11x to 21x. If you hit a 21x multiplier at the max bet per spin, the payout on each free spin can be worthy of a Greek God’s fortune.
Does Microgaming come up with the goods in Ancient Fortunes: Zeus? Certainly not, we’ve seen all these elements in the slot games of other software providers before.
Moving onto the positive: the mechanic is well constructed, it has a Rolling Reel (cascading) feature offering successive wins on each spin and a re-triggerable free spins round where players can receive up to 70 free falls.
In principle, it certainly looks good but we’re afraid that’s as far as it goes. Regrettably, those multipliers up to 21 times never enticed us despite their promotion of the slots as a big earner in the Free Spins. It failed to ‘show us the money’ and as such it’s another Microgaming title that failed to make the cut. This is not a 3D slots where you’ll be able to quote Ron Burgundy by saying “By the beard of Zeus”!
Ancient Fortunes: Zeus FAQ
How many spins must I make before the Free Spins feature is triggered?
Because Microgaming’s previous slots releases did not inspire, we’ve decided to take things easy so our average bet was £0.10 per spin. At this bet we expected to trigger the free falls within 40 spins but alas, not so! It took us 75 spins to get into the free spins and only managed a multiplier win of 2x with our allotted 10 free spins and a win of £1.50.
