If you haven’t played three card poker before rest assured it’s a fun and popular new casino table game to play. What makes the game even more interesting is that new versions of the game such as three card poker with a 6-card bonus keeps on hitting the market on a regular basis.

In this article we’re going to tell you more about three card poker, provide some tips, game rules and payouts. The question many folk ask us how popular is three card poker exactly? Based on our research the game is still catching on at online casinos but there are loads of casinos on the Las Vegas Strip that offer it. Furthermore, it’s the second most popular table game in the state!

Compared to blackjack the game moves at a slower pace, the odds are not as good but it’s still better than that of roulette. Plus, the game offers some big payoffs like 40 to 1 for a Straight Flush and even 50 to 1 for a Mini Royal. Essentially this keeps the game popular, there has been a number of ”improvements” to the game over the years with additional bonus payouts.

Progressive Three Card Poker

The first new bonus wager was a side bet on the very same Mini Royal. For a wager of $1 the player has the option to win a progressive amount (a thousand dollars or more) if they’re dealt a Mini Royal in in Spades (Ace, King, Queen of spades). The player will win $500 if he or she manages a Mini Royal in another suit.

The Prime Wager

When it comes to Three Card Poker the prime wager is another popular side bet, it’s a simple bet where the player’s cards would all be the same color. The payoff is three to one, should the player and the dealer’s cards be the same color, the payoffs will be 4 to 1.

Looking For A Royal 6-Card Bonus Progressive

Although not many online casinos offer three card poker the game’s popularity is growing. Remember that the bonus wager is entirely optional and relatively easy to make. All you have to do is increase your wager from $5 to $25 to the little red light above the pair plus spot. The bonus payoff is for a Royal Flush in the suit of spades. Players use the dealer’s three cards and their own cards in order to make the best five-card hand. Let’s say you do hit a Royal Flush in spades you’ll win whatever amount is displayed on the progressive meter, basically the amount can be anything from $25,000 or more.

Other payoffs include 25% of the progressive meter for a Royal Flush diamonds, clubs or hearts and lessor payoffs for all top hands from straight flush to four-a-kind, as well as a flush, full house and straight.

Pair Plus

The pair plus bet is based on the player’s hand only. It’s easy to play and there’s no skill needed. The hands differ from the standard five card poker. In three card poker you seldom see a straight. It’s higher than a flush if you do manage one. Just remember, if the flush only pays 3 avoid the Pair Plus bet.

*Three Card Poker Ante Bonus

Hand A B C D
Straight flush 5 to 1 5 to 1 4 to 1 3 to 1
Three of a kind 4 to 1 3 to 1 3 to 1 2 to 1
Straight 1 to 1 1 to 1 1 to 1 1 to 1
House edge 3.37% 3.6% 3.8% 4.28%

Strategy

On the ante bet, the optimal strategy is to raise your hand with Q64 or higher. This applies to all bonus tables.

Flashing Dealers

When three card poker is dealt from a shuffling machine, the dealer often shows the bottom card. This is not done on purpose and can be very advantageous to the player. When the dealer exposes the card stick to the following:

  • When it’s a Jack or less, raise.
  • If it’s a Queen, raise with Q92 or higher.
  • A King, raise with K92 or higher.
  • Ace, raise with A92 or higher.
  • If it’s an unknown face card. Raise with QJ5 or higher.

If the player can see the dealer’s card, landing an Ace is 3.48%. If the card isn’t a face card the player advantage is 2.41%.

Summary

Just like most new casino games, the house advantage in three card poker is slightly higher than classic games like blackjack, baccarat and craps. When you play this poker variant it’s important to bet smaller limits and to play it for entertainment purposes only. This is not the type of game where you can win copious amount of money.

When you play three card poker, there are two important things to remember. Raise on the Q64 or higher and avoid the pair plus bet if the flush only pays 3.
